Gunn-Gross changed to No-Contest. Gross fails post fight drug test! by Dave Baggs, FightNews Canada 2006-04-24 Despite getting dropped twice in the opening round and then hitting his opponent repeatedly while on the canvas, Shelby Gross left the ring in Nashville, Tennessee a winner with the IBA Cruiserweight title firmly wrapped around his waist. Since then, there has been more dramatics outside the ropes than what when on inside them. The IBA received written protests from Joe McEwen, a boxing promoter who has served as an announcer for the event, and Richard King, manager of Bobby Gunn over the actions of both Shelby Gross and the referee that night, Fred Boges. The IBA acted quickly, vacating Gross' claim to the title and ordering an immediate rematch between the two. The IBA stated however, they had no authority in changing the outcome of the bout, giving Gross credit for scoring the TKO victory. Only the boxing commission in Tennessee could do such. Late last week, all parties were notified by the Tennessee Boxing Commission that Shelby Gross had failed its post fight drug test and thus has changed the ruling on the March 31st result to a No Contest, removing the "L" from Bobby Gunn's ledger which shouldn't have been there in the first place. With a failure of a post fight drug test comes an automatic suspension. The duration of the suspension depends on what substance was used. The Tennessee Boxing Commission has notified Gross with a letter notifying him of the offense and that an investigation is underway. The duration of the suspension will likely effect the immediate rematch plans for Gunn and Gross. Should Gross be suspended for 90 days, the IBA will support that decision and wait until Gross is ready to return for the rematch to take place. If the suspension is longer than 90 days, the IBA will move to fill it's vacancy by having Gunn meet the next available contender. "Like the IBA, we'll wait to see what kind of suspension is handed down to Gross before making a decision how to proceed." Richard King (manager behind Bobby Gunn) told FightNews Canada. "Bobby is really obsessed about evening the score with Gross but we've got a few offers on the table should Gross be unable to return to the ring in 3 months."
