Hinton-Sidon Oct 16th by Dave Baggs, FightNews Canada 2009-10-07 Canadian Heavyweight Sheldon Hinton was to have faced former world title challenger Monte Barrett a few months back until an injury forced him (Hinton) to withdraw and the Barrett fight vanished. The entire August card was moved to back to October and with the new date comes a new opponent for the vastly improving Hinton. The Edmonton big boy will now face a solid test in Andreas Sidon of Germany. The two will square off in a 10 round heavyweight showdown at the Northlands Agricom in Edmonton on October 16th. Sidon will make his first trip to North America, sporting an impressive 33-8 record with 27 of those victories coming by way of knockout. Sidon, who birth date is listed February 1963 (for those with bad math, that would make him 46), is a former German heavyweight champion who will be making his first ring appearance of 2009, having been inactive almost 20 months. The German holds 2 victories over Willi Fischer but two recent KO defeats (one of which to Odlanier Solis, a fighter making his pro debut) suggests that German fighter may not be what he once was before. Hinton, a winner of his last 4 contests, will enter the ring with a 10-6-1 record. The boxer/promoter will be looking to add Sidon's name to his growing win column in hopes of luring another big name opponent (Barrett is your still interested...) back to Edmonton. Even with Sidon entering the ring at an advanced age, this will still be considered a big step up for the Edmonton brawler after fighting the likes of Jorge Valenzuela, Dean Storey, and Stephane Tessier in his last three contest. The Hinton-Sidon bout will be supported by 6 other contests featuring some of Canada's best up and coming talent. Red Deer's Arash Usmanee will look to move to 3-0 at the expense of Mexico's Edwin Perez (1-1). Former Canadian Olympian and Fightnews Canada correspondent Adam Trupish will make his pro debut against Edgar Hernandez (0-1). Eddie Dawson (9-3, 7KOs) will travel from Halifax and make his way west to take on battle test journeyman Dan Sheehan (11-36, 5KOs), fighting out of Brockton, Massachusetts, in a 4 round Cruiserweight bout. Also making his way from the Maritimes will be former Canadian heavyweight title challenger Steve McKay (5-2, 1KO) who will be seeing action for the first time in almost 5 years. His opponent is still being sought out. Another fighter traveling westward will be undefeated lightweight prospect Logan McGuinness (7-0, 3KOs). McGuinnes who just fought on Saturday afternoon in Montreal, will travel to Edmonton to take on Mexico's Hugo Pacheco (6-9, 6KOs) in a 6 round contest. Rounding out the card will be Brad Marks, who will be making his pro debut against David McQuaker(1-0), fighting out of Lethbridge, Alberta.
