![]() The return of the Razor! by Dave Baggs, FightNews Canada 2009-10-14 Former world ranked Light Middleweight contender and former Canadian Middleweight champion Larry Sharpe will make his first ring appearance since his unexpected stoppage loss to Oney Valdez last April. In that fight, Sharpe battled his Columbian counterpart on even terms for 11 rounds before fate and a huge right hand from Valdez ended his bid to recapture his WBA Fedecentro title just 64 seconds into the 12th and final round. It was Sharpe's third consecutive loss which immediately brought up questions about Sharpe future in the sport. Now, a mere day away, Larry "Razor" Sharpe will return to the friendly confines of the ring once more. This time without the burden of starvation and dehydration to make 154. Tomorrow night at King John's Boxing boxing/dinner card at the Gates Restaurant (in Winnipeg), Sharpe (22-7, 10 KOs) will take on Bruce Rumbolz (22-18-2, 15 KOs) of Sterling, Illinois in a Super middleweight bout main event. "There is no way I can make 154 anymore. The last two times almost killed me. Tonight I weighed in at 164lbs. The contracted weight for this fight was 168. I believe I can make 160 easy but 168 is more my natural weight now. I feel much stronger as a super middleweight." Sharpe told FightNews Canada Where does Razor go from here? Given that he was so close to getting an opportunity at a world title at 154 in 2008 (his name was mentioned for Joachim Alcine who held the WBA title at the time), how will he remotivate himself to reclimb the ladder at 168 if not at 154. At 35 yr old, how many more wars can Sharpe endure before calling it a career. "I have 2 more years left in boxing. What my future holds, I don't know. Right now, I'm fighting for the sake of fighting. I like it. I enjoy it. There is plenty of talent at 168 in Canada right now, Stevenson, Poulard, and even Demers has moved up. I would love the opportunity to take on one of these guys for the Canadian title. It has always been a goal of mine to fight in Montreal with 20 thousand fans screaming and cheering. Even fighting on an undercard in that kind of environment would be awesome." First things first, Sharpe must deal with Rumbolz, a career super middleweight who comes to Winnipeg fresh off a victory over a 19-6-2 fighter just 4 months ago. "I've searched him up on BoxRec but that's about it. I was told that he's tough and to be honest, that's what I'm looking for. That's the challenge I need. I've seen guys with 20 fight taking on guys with 3-0 record but I can't do that. I need to test myself, (I need) to see where I'm at."
