![]() Grant-McGuinness a no go! Victor Lupo added to January 16th card in Mississauga by Dave Baggs, FightNews Canada 2009-11-05 It looks like the battle of Orangeville will have to wait. The much anticipated meeting between former Canadian Super Bantamweight champion Buzz Grant (7-3, 4KOs) and undefeated Lightweight prospect Logan McGuinesses (8-0, 4 KOs), originally scheduled for January 16th in Mississauga, will not happen. Don MacDonald of United Promotions, worked diligently in getting Team Grant signed but in the end, both parties were unable to work out a deal. A new opponent will be found for McGuinness. MacDonald, a little disappointed and frustrated with the inability to get a firm committement from Grant and his management, was quick to act to fill the immediate void. United Promotions announced it has added Canadian Welterweight champion Victor Lupo to the card. This will be a homecoming of sorts for Mr Lupo as the Romanian born Canuck started his pro career at the same Hershey Center in Mississauga back in April 2004 in battling Greg Bazile to a 4 round stalemate. "We are excited to add a guy like Victor to the card. I know that Missisauga boxing fans will get their monies worth in watching what a solid pro like Lupo brings to the ring." MacDonald told FightNews in a phone interview. In addition to the Lupo and McGuinness bouts, the undercard will feature some very good and competitive matchups. In a crossroads bout, Ontario Welterweight champ Tebor Brosch will take on former amateur standout Harrison McBain over 6 rounds. Quebec Lightweight champ Jorge Banos will take on Steve Marsh in a Super Featherweight bout. Marsh is currently being trained by 2 time world title challenger Billy "The Kid" Irwin. Heavyweights Freddie McGinn and Denton Daley will make their pro debuts. Daley will face Irving Chestnut while McGinn's opponent is unknown at this time. Rounding out the card will be Julius Bunda who will be looking for his 2nd pro victory under the guidance of Syd Vanderpool. He is scheduled to participate in a 4 round middleweight contest with the ever famous TBA. If you wish to contact the author of this article, email Dave Baggs at FightNews Canada |
