FIGHTNEWS CANADA's
2009 Comeback of the Year

Olivia Gerula, WBC World champion

Heading into 2009, Olivia Gerula appeared to be on the road of Obsurity. With only 1 bout the year before, a meaningless KO of winless Monique Duval, Gerula hit the road with a less than stellar 9-10-2 record. The difference this year is that she re-dedicated herself to the sport and got herself an proper trainer. The results speak for themselves.

"I always knew she (Olivia) had the talent", Butch Gottlieb, editor of BoxinginLasVegas.com told FightNews. "She just needed the right motivation." Guess she found it.

Honourable mention: Tebor Brosch

2009 was a very good year for Tebor Brosch. Over 12 months, the grizzly hard punching welterweight from Mississauga collected 3 wins and a draw against some solid opposition. The year started off with an upset victory, knocking out the talented Ahmad Cheikho in the openning round. The following month, Brosch won his first pro title, defeating Paul Watson over 6 close rounds to become the Ontario Welterweight champion. Then, in November, came the total destruction of light welterweight prospect Benyamine Besmi where Brosch obliterated (and potentially retired) Besmi in 2 rounds. Less than a month later, Brosch completed his comeback year, fighting on the undercard of the Pascal-Diaconu rematch at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Brosch traded punch for punch with the current Canadian Light Welterweight champion Manolis Plaitis in an 8 round non title bout, doing more than enough to earn a draw with the rising prospect. Without a shadow of a doubt, Tebor Brosch is the best 4-3-4 fighter in the country.
